A terrific weekend for both Corinthians teams. The 1st XI pulled of a two-wicket victory over St Luke’s with Senthil Kumar making his highest score of the season, an unbeaten 74 to steer WCCC home in their pursuit of 187.
The 1sts were 77 for 5 before a stand between Senthil and stand-in skipper Anshul Chandra (22) took the side to 130 for 6. At 145 for 8, the win looked a distant prospect but Ambarish Jyotimay (25 not out) stuck with Senthil to seal the victory.
Senthil also took a wicket with the new ball while his opening partner Kunal took 4 for 28. There were two wickets for Gopa and one each for Ben Priest and Ambarish.
The 2nds finally won a game in a close and eventful encounter with Kensington & Chelseaat Raynes Park . Sushant Lall smashed a 51-ball hundred in WCCC’s total of 243 for 6, which also included a season’s best from skipper John Stern (33) and a club best for John Cadigan (34).
Cadigan was then the unfortunate victim of a dislocated finger, trying to catch one of Geoff Balasoglou’s thunderbolts. Stern took over the gloves and with only ten fielders the 2nds ran out winners by 20 runs in a game that was on the line until the final over.
Lall closed the game out for 2 for 8 off two overs; Keith Pilgrim took 2 for 39 and there was wicket each for Balasoglou (plus a terrific direct-hit run-out), Rakesh Rego and Theo Moore. Steve O’Neil Ramsadeo was at his miserly best, going for only 15 off his eight overs.
