Wimbledon Corinthians Cricket Club

Weekend round-up: 23 July

A low-scoring Saturday for both Corinthians’ sides and sadly both matches ended in defeat.

The 1sts lost by two wickets to Reigate Priory 4th XI, defending only 149. It was a strange looking scorecard with only two batsmen making double figures: Matiullah Haidar 43 and Gopa 49 not out.

Haidar and Senthil Kumar took two wickets each as Reigate Priory struggled to 119 for 8 before their ninth-wicket pair took them over the line.

The 2nds came off second best against our long-time friendly rivals, Epsom Methodists. On a hot afternoon, Corinthians did well to restrict the hosts to 158 for 9 with Olly Hunter taking 4 for 18 with his leg-spin and debutant off-spinner Ibrahim Mumtaz finishing with figures of 8-3-9-3.

But after a solid opening stand of 30 between John Stern and Brian Clifford, six wickets fell for only four runs, and the 2nds were all out for 66.
