WCCC’s former first-team skipper relocates to India after more than 100 matches for the club and successful promotion campaign in 2015.
Economicals made an imposing total of 295 with keeper Brad Phillips (106) making his first century of the season. Tom Parkinson picked up two wickets for WCCC.
Corinthians made a terrific stab at chasing down the target through Arun Philip (45), Mati Haidar (69) and Senthil Kumar (35), who was third out with the score on 178. But WCCC collapsed from 243 for 6 to 268 all out.
The 2nds achieved only their second victory of the season, beating Whiteley Village 3rd XI by 30 runs.
Having won the toss, WCCC made 141 on a slow, seaming pitch. The middle order of Farhan Shah (34), Brian Clifford (21) and Prakhar Chandra (24) battled hard to set a decent total with Geoff Balasoglou (12) and Keith Pilgrim (15) chipping in at the end.
Corinthians were favourites once they broke the opening stand of 20 and took a second wicket without any additional score. Pilgrim took 3 for 8 from two spells amounting to 5.5 overs while seamer Bruno Gonta had a hugely impressive debut, taking 3 for 16. Saad Naveed took two catches and finished with figures 6-4-2-1.
