1st XI @ Economicals CC 27th May – Match Report

A glorious sunny afternoon greeted both teams on arrival to Cottenham Park this Saturday. Corinthians won the toss and elected to field.

Jason, in his first Corinthians appearance of the season, got the team off to a great start with a miserly 7- over spell that went for just 16 runs! The other stand-out bowling performance Mati taking 4 wickets in his 9 overs. Latif, Saad and Tom picked up a wicket a piece and skipper-for-the-day Ben got 2 and a slip catch.

The bowling was supported by a strong performance in the field, strong in both catching and ground fielding. Star man in the field was Ambarish, who took 2 tricky swirling high catches and caused a run out with an excellent throw into the gloves of the evergreen Mr Prakash Joshi.

No question, that the star man with the bat was Chris Hooper – who carried his bat with a superb knock of 94 not out. Chris was ably supported by Joshi (25) who together put on a half century partnership, which calmed any nerves which may have crept in after a few relatively early wickets. With Chris continuing to be the dominant run scorer, he formed a 29-run partnership with club chairman Brian Clifford, and then an unbroken 35 run partnership with Ben saw Corinthians home to a 5-wicket win with 8 overs to spare.

It was a strong all-round performance from Corinthians, and provided a much needed second league win, in what was a well contested game that was also played in a good spirit, by both teams, thanks to very welcoming and friendly opposition.

Next up: Chairman’s day! Both Corinthians teams at home for what should be a great day of cricket and socialising.
