before it reaches the popping crease

FAIR DELIVERY – THE BACK FOOT
Bowler’s back foot must land within – and not touch – the return crease.
Ball does not become dead on call of No Ball
When No Ball has been called, neither batsman shall be out under any rule, except under Handled the ball; Hit ball twice; Run out; or Obstructing the field.
Any runs completed, struck by the bat, will be credited to the batsman; otherwise they are scored as No Ball extras.

BALL COMING TO REST IN FRONT OF STRIKER’S WICKET
In this instance, provided the ball has not touched the bat or person of the striker, the umpire shall call a No Ball and then immediately signal a Dead Ball. Striker not to have the right to hit ball coming to rest in front of wicket. If no ball has also been called, the runs are scored as No Ball extras.
All runs from No Ball are debited against the bowler.

LBW – BALL PITCHING OUTSIDE LEG STUMP
In addition to LBW laws:
• Not out if ball pitches outside leg stump

WIDE
The ball will be considered a wide unless it is sufficiently within the batsman’s reach for him to be able to play a normal cricket stroke.
A Wide will not be called if the striker, by moving, either
• Causes the ball to pass wide of him
• Brings the ball sufficiently within his reach to be able to strike it by means of a normal cricket stroke
• If the ball touches the striker’s bat or person

When a Wide has been called, neither batsman shall be out under any rule, except under Handled the ball; Hit wicket; Run out; Stumped; or Obstructing the field.
Ball does not become dead on call of a Wide.
All runs from a Wide are debited against the bowler.

LEG BYES
A ball that strikes the batsman on his person, provided he has:
• Attempted to play the ball with his bat
• Tried to avoid being hit by the ball
Any runs are awarded as Leg Byes

OUT HIT GLOVE
Can be caught off any part of glove on hand holding bat.

OUT HIT THE BALL TWICE
A batsman is out from the above if the ball strikes his bat or any part of his body and he willfully strikes it again with his bat or with his person, except for the sole purpose of guarding his wicket.

BALL LAWFULLY STRUCK MORE THAN ONCE
Solely to guard his wicket and before the ball has been touched by a fielder; the striker may lawfully strike the ball more than once with bat or with any part of his body – but must not use a hand not holding the bat.

OUT HANDLED THE BALL
Either batsman is out if he willfully touches the ball while in play with a hand or hands not holding the bat. Bowler does not get the credit. Batsman will not be out if he handles the ball in order to avoid injury.

DEFINITION OF FAIR DELIVERY – THE ARM
Once the bowler’s arm has reached the level of the shoulder in the delivery swing, the elbow joint is not straightened partially or completely from that point until the ball has left the hand. This action does not prevent the bowler from flexing or rotating the wrist in the delivery swing.
