So to sum it up, a superb team effort by Corinthians for a well-earned 5-wicket victory on Sunday against the Malden Wanderers (Alec Stewart’s ex club). The game was against my former club so I was obviously keen to give a good account for WCCC. We won the toss and decided to insert the opposition in with some cloud cover and a nice dry wicket with a couple of green patches. The ground was beautiful with a quick outfield and reasonably sized boundaries but we let the opposition get away to a decent start before Geoff struck and Druva followed it up with a couple of quick wickets. The oppo managed to string a partnership and took the score to 88/4 at the half way point of the innings with a 200+ score looking more than likely. However Theo turned in a stellar performance to pick up three wickets, Steve/Omkar keeping it economical whilst Ed and Geoff finishing it off in style to restrict the Malden Wanderers to 170\. WCCC started the chase well (after a strong tea setup by the Wanderers) with a 50 run opening stand between Sai (41) and Ankit (9), and then a defining 88 run partnership between Omkar (51* retired) and Randill (33) to take the game closer. Then Olly (12), Steve (5), Ed (5*) and Druva (7*) finishing off the game for WCCC in style. A special mention to Ed for coming back after injury in the first couple of overs to bowl the last couple of overs of the innings. Some special performances from WCCC with Geoff’s 3 for 24 from 6 overs, Sai’s 41 and Omkar’s 51 not out from 45 deliveries, but the player of the match was Theo Moore with his 3 for 13 from 5 overs that changed the match decisively in our favour. The champagne moment for me was Olly’s lightening-quick stumping of their most destructive batsman!
